The GMY Dolphins Academy is our pre-competitive swim program, designed for swimmers ready to take their skills to the next level. Through age- and skill-appropriate groups, swimmers build stroke technique, endurance, and race skills in a structured, supportive environment.
From foundational skill development to advanced training for older swimmers, the Academy provides a clear pathway to growth, confidence, and peak performance: whether your goal is competitive swimming or simply becoming your strongest swimmer yet.

Junior Squad
Refining technique, building endurance, and advancing competitive skills.
Junior Squad is for younger swimmers ready to take their stroke mechanics and stamina to the next level. Training includes continued stroke refinement and building on the competitive skills they learned previously, including starts, turns, and interval sets. Swimmers must be able to perform three of the four racing strokes legally, with a basic understanding of the fourth stroke, to participate. This program helps swimmers bridge the gap between foundational skills and high-level pre-competitive training.
GMY Dolphins Academy Evaluations & Placement
Swimmer placement in the Academy is determined through evaluations conducted by our coaching staff. Evaluations may include:

An evaluation slip from a coach following the end of a session/season, or
-
An individual swim evaluation conducted by our Aquatics staff.
Important Notes:

Evaluations must be current, from the most recent session or completed within several weeks prior to registration.

Evaluations older than three (3) months will require a re-evaluation before a swimmer can be registered for the Academy.

Placement may also be determined by the results of GMY Swim Team tryouts, ensuring swimmers are grouped appropriately based on skill, age, and readiness.

Prep Squad
Building strong foundations for future success in the pool.
Prep Squad is designed for swimmers who are developing proficiency across all four competitive strokes. Emphasis is placed on legal technique, consistent practice habits, and teamwork. Swimmers at this level should be able to perform two of the four racing strokes legally and demonstrate a working knowledge of the other two strokes to be eligible. This group lays the groundwork for future growth in both skill and confidence.

Varsity Squad
Train at a near-competitive level and sharpen your race skills.
Varsity Team is reserved for advanced swimmers aged 13 and older who are legal in all four racing strokes. This program focuses on stroke efficiency, race skills, pacing strategies, and the ability to handle higher-intensity training sessions. Varsity swimmers are prepared to compete at the next level or take their performance to new heights while benefiting from the structure and discipline of an elite pre-competitive program.
